1. What do you mean it changes shape?
TRAK is the world’s first Adaptable Kayak™. It is the only kayak that allows you to adjust its rocker, which changes the shape of the kayak. The paddler can micro-adjust the upward curvature of the hull along the entire keel line, right from the cockpit using hydraulic levers.
"Back up. I don’t know what that means," you say?
Okay. The more rocker your kayak has (the more it has a banana shape), the easier it is to maneuver, or simply, it turns quickly. The less rocker your kayak has (the straighter the line), the easier it is to go straight and fast. When you purchase a typical kayak, you have to commit to a single shape – and that means you always make a compromise between speed and maneuverability.
With the TRAK kayak, you don’t have to choose. It does both, and everything in between.
Why does this matter? Weather and water conditions are constantly changing, and this drastically affects the optimum shape of kayak required for the conditions. TRAK is the only kayak on the market that responds to these practical paddling realities. ?Still aren’t clear? Think of it as the first time you rode a bike with gears. Same principle.
2. Why do some kayaks need rudders and TRAK doesn’t?
Generally speaking, rudders and skegs help to mitigate crosswinds to keep a kayak paddling in a straight line. In some cases having or not having a rudder is a matter of personal preference. For others it’s a matter of skill. For the rest of us, crosswinds are a test of endurance from Mother Nature.
Wouldn’t it be more fun if you didn’t have to paddle so much harder to keep your kayak from going off course? And wouldn’t it be nice not to deal with the hassle of a rudder? We thought so.
Using the VariTRIM Lateral Adjustment™ the paddler can adjust the gunnels (the sides of the kayak) to adjust the length and arc. This technological advancement had its roots in aircraft technology and works on the same prince as the wing of an airplane. What else is it similar to? Think of the entire kayak responding to wind like a sail.
3. How easy is it to assemble?
It’s easier than folding a fitted sheet. A lot easier. There are only 7 sections. Plus, for your reference every kayak comes with a printed Quick Start Guide and DVD. Once you put it together the first time, you should be able to do it in about 10 minutes.
The fastest time on record to date is 6.5 minutes. Have you done it faster? Email us at: sales@RethinkKayak.com and let us know.
4. How much does the kayak weigh in the pack?
The TRAK T-1600 weighs 58 pounds when the pack. The stylish custom OGIO designed pack is included with the TRAK Kayak. But, if you’re not into carrying it, you can also roll it along like your most fashionable piece of airline luggage.
5. Why doesn’t TRAK have hatches?
We’re into making things simple. And so we created a Keeder System. It makes packing your kayak a snap. The entire stern section of the kayak opens up and then is sealed again simply by sliding the Keder closed and locking it into place. Watertight. No hassle. Want it even easier to load? Then use our custom Watershed dry storage and float bags, designed to fit the shape of the TRAK kayak.
6. What is the warranty?
We stand behind the quality of our product. Every TRAK has a five-year warranty.
7. Is the frame corrosion resistant?
Yes. The frame is constructed from aerospace grade anodized aircraft aluminum. It’s exceptionally light weight and incredibly strong.
8. How do I use the Tri-active Performance System™ when I have a spray skirt on?
Included with your kayak is a custom spray skirt made for us by Seals. The skirt has a watertight access to the cockpit. And yes, it comes included with your kayak.
9. I already have a roof rack. Can I transport my kayak that way?
Sure. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to show off your TRAK kayak. But with the TEN-&-In Portability™, the decision is a nice problem to have.
10. I’m not an experienced kayaker, is this kayak for me?
Yes. However, we recommend taking kayaking lessons from a certified instructor no matter what kind of kayak you purchase. You should also speak with your local kayak retailer about proper life preservers, paddles, pumps and other gear.
