Just another mind-blowing day on the Ottawa River... in pictures and video:

Ken and colleague Brendan Mark pushed their TRAK kayaks to the limit in Class 4 rapids on Ontario’s Ottawa River. His only advice: “Don’t try this at home.”

Even before his crossover kayaking experience, Ken saw the potential for TRAK to change the way we paddle: “High performance, unrivaled versatility, amazing portability and slick looks are why TRAK represents the evolution of the sea kayak.”

Who is Ken Whiting anyway?

Ken was the 1997/98 World Freestyle Kayaking Champion, the 1998 Japan Open Champion, and a five-time Canadian National Champion in freestyle kayaking. His passion for paddling extends to sea kayaking, and he is co-author of two best-selling books and a DVD on the subject.

Ken was 14 years old when he picked up a kayak paddle for the first time while taking a five-day kayaking course on Canada's Ottawa River in 1989. Winning the World’s was a major turning point in Ken’s life, and shortly afterwards he made the decision to develop a career that would keep him involved in the world of kayaking that he loved so much.

He started an industry-leading kayak school, founded the Canadian Freestyle Kayaking Association, wrote and produced a best-selling and award-winning series of kayaking instructional books and videos, was nominated in 2006 for an Everest Outdoor Achievement Award, and was recognized by Paddler Magazine in 2000 as one of their "Paddlers of the Century".

Ken runs The Heliconia Press, with his wife Nicole, producing best-selling and award-winning instructional books and videos about kayaking and other outdoor pursuits. In addition to his publishing house, he regularly appears on the covers of and writes articles for virtually every paddling magazine in the world.

Ken’s various projects have taken him paddling to over fifteen different countries, including Japan, Honduras, Guatemala, Chile, Peru, Argentina, New Zealand, and Australia, as well as throughout Europe and North America.

Ken, his wife Nicole, and their dog Jake now live in the small, rural town of Beachburg, only minutes from the put-in for the Ottawa River in Ontario, Canada where he now enjoys thrashing around in his beloved TRAK kayak.
